How leasing helped save business in 2022–2025: figures, cases, facts

Starting in 2022, Ukrainian business found itself in unprecedented conditions: war, loss of assets, destroyed logistics chains, staff outflow, lack of funding. In such realities, those who were able to quickly adapt, find partners and mobilize resources survived. One of the tools that really helped not only survive, but also grow is leasing.

This financial mechanism became a support for entrepreneurs who needed new machinery, transport or equipment, but could not afford to buy it at full cost. Let’s look at the figures, real examples and how the leasing market in Ukraine has changed over the past three years.

Figures that speak for themselves

According to the Association of Lessors of Ukraine:

  • 2022: despite the full-scale invasion, the market remained active. More than 4,000 new contracts were signed, mainly in the agricultural and transport sectors.
  • 2023: the number of contracts increased by 35%, the following areas were particularly active:
  1. agribusiness (tractors, combines, seeders);
  2. logistics (trucks, buses);
  3. construction (excavators, mini-loaders).
  • 2024: the trend continued, new areas appeared:
  1. generators, mobile solar power plants, electric vehicles;
  2. equipment for the military and contractors working on reconstruction;
  3. equipment for processing, food industry, woodworking.

Real cases of Ukrainian companies

1. Construction company from Kharkiv

In 2022, they lost part of their equipment due to shelling. Thanks to leasing, they were able to update their fleet and take a backhoe loader with only 30% of the advance payment. After 2 months, they returned to work – they are building facilities in western Ukraine.

2. A farmer from Kirovohrad region

After losing the harvest in 2022, he did not have the funds to update the seeder. In 2023, he leased the seeder for 4 years through the “5-7-9” program, at a reduced rate. He harvested the crop, opened another plot for sowing.

3. A logistics company from Dnipro

Requests for the delivery of humanitarian cargo have increased. They leased 3 new trucks, without which they simply would not have been able to cope with the volume. Thanks to the flexible repayment schedule, they did not pay the full amount in the first months, but after stabilization, they leveled the schedule.

What exactly did businesses lease in 2022–2025

TOP 5 objects:

  1. Trucks and cars (especially pickup trucks, electric cars).
  2. Agricultural machinery (seeders, tractors, sprayers).
  3. Generators, power supply systems, solar power plants.
  4. Construction machinery (excavators, skid steer loaders).
  5. Equipment for production and processing.

Why did leasing work especially during the crisis?

  • No need to invest the entire amount at once – the business leaves funds for circulation.
  • Faster than a loan – processing without lengthy banking procedures.
  • Flexibility of schedules – payments can be adapted to the season or financial condition.
  • Possibility of renewal – the equipment can be changed upon completion of the contract.
  • Support for partnership programs – state and international grants allowed to reduce the cost of financing.

What’s next?

In 2025, we see even greater demand for leasing in the areas of:

  • energy independence (solar power plants, batteries),
  • small-scale production,
  • logistics and service (couriers, tow trucks, equipment),
  • IT (equipment, data centers, network equipment).

More and more companies are using leasing as a strategic tool, not just temporary help.

Leasing is not just an alternative to credit. In the period 2022–2025, it became a real lifeline for hundreds of companies. It allowed them to continue working, pay salaries, update equipment, and not stop. It is thanks to such tools that business in Ukraine not only survived — but also began to grow in the most difficult times.
